Overview
The annual American Association of Service Coordinators Awards of Excellence recognize members for outstanding achievement in the practice of service coordination. Nominations offer service coordinators and others in affordable, service-enhanced housing an opportunity to be recognized for exceptional performance beyond their daily job description.
Call for Nominations
Nominees may be individuals, organizations, apartment communities or companies. Note: Nominee MUST be an AASC member in good standing. Click here for a nomination form. Nomination forms can also be found on the AASC website at www.servicecoordinator.org. You may copy the form for multiple nominations; however, please use a separate form for each nomination. In addition, each nomination must include up to two letters of recommendation supporting the nomination, plus information and materials supporting the specific award criteria. Please see the nomination form for more details. Entries must be postmarked by June 20, 2008. Any entries received after this date will not be considered.
The Awards Process
The Awards Committee will review and select all award nominations in May. Nominees will be notified of the results by July 20 so they can plan to attend the Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with AASC’s 2008 National Service Coordinator Conference in Washington, DC on Monday, October 6, 2008, to accept their awards.
Categories
- Family Services and Self-Sufficiency
- Demonstrates effective and/or innovative ways of partnering with service agencies, schools, businesses, and others to enable low-income resident heads of households and older youth obtain employment leading toward economic independence.
- Creates service opportunities for children to succeed in education to break the cycle of poverty.
- Creates services that result in better relationships within the property and with the community at large.
- Is unique and would be worthy of duplication by other properties that provide affordable housing to low-income families or Family Self-Sufficiency programs.
- Changes attitudes and/or understanding of the cultural diversity of residents
- Creates better relationships between the different cultural groups in the apartment community
- Is unique and would be worthy of duplication by other service coordinators
- Provides residents with a greater understanding of how service coordinators can enrich their lives
- Affects change in residents’ attitudes and/or understanding on a major topic of concern in their apartment community or a larger community, such as their town, county, state, or country
- Improves residents’ lives through education
- Creates better relationships between residents and others, such as their families, job supervisors, or neighbors
- Is unique and would be worthy of duplication by other service coordinators
- Goes beyond the service coordinator’s typical role of assisting residents with community services
- Affects changes in residents’ and the local community’s perception and understanding of the value of service coordination
- Creates better relationships between residents and service providers and/or property managers
- Is unique and would be worthy of duplication by other service coordinators
- Overcomes steep hurdles to obtain needed services
- Demonstrates ways the service coordinator has gone above and beyond the expected in working with the local community.
- Changes the larger community’s attitudes and/or understanding of the HUD programs used in the housing community.
- Creates strong relationships between the apartment community residents and members of the larger community.
- Serves residents of the larger community in ways similar to those living in the apartment community.
- Is unique and would be worthy of duplication by other service coordinators.
- Enhances resident satisfaction by reducing or eliminating problems in the apartment community thru team management.
- Changes attitudes about the property and brings about greater respect and pride for the apartment community.
- Creates better relationships between residents, staff, and the community at large.
- An achievement or program that changes local area community’s perception of the property.
- Is unique and would be worthy of duplication by other management companies.
